I've had that problem on my layouts in the past and used a couple of strands of lamp cord wire (zip cord) soldered from the stock rail to the point. Just leave enough slack so the point can move back and forth. Atlas makes an oil called conductalube (I think) that by putting a drop on the pivot may improve electrical conductivity. I used it on my clubs layout with some success. It's not necessary to replace the switch.
